A live unexploded bomb from World War Two was discovered by police during a burglary investigation in Rugby.

The shell was among three found when Warwickshire Police officers were called to farmland in Grandborough following a report antiques had been stolen.

The owner reported the devices were on site and officers called the bomb disposal squad to the scene straight away.

After inspecting the shells, the bomb squad officers found one of the shells was still live and took it away for safe disposal.

PC Seb Payne said that while he had never thought a burglary investigation would be disrupted by an explosive - expecting the unexpected comes with the policing territory.

"You take the proper precautions, clear the area and make sure everyone's safe but I never worry, if they've been around for 80 years without going off they're probably okay," he said.

"To be honest I'd only get nervous if someone started kicking them."
