Sniffer dogs have exposed a shipping container storing over 200,000 illegal cigarettes and tobacco - with some contraband hidden inside deep fat fryers.

Officers from Bedworth East’s safer neighbourhood team, Warwickshire County Council trading standards officers and specialist dog handlers raided a series of containers in the area.

The trained detection dogs sniffed out the haul, which was concealed inside boxes and deep fat fryers.

All tobacco products were seized at the scene and trading standards are conducting an investigation into the owner of the container.

A shop in Bedworth town centre that had been selling illegal cigarettes and tobacco was also given a notice.

Nuneaton and Bedworth East Police said it would be "shut down in due course".
