A prayer vigil is to be held for the Bishop of Guildford, the Right Reverend Andrew Watson, after he revealed he may only have a month to live.

The 64-year-old father-of-four said in a letter earlier this month that he had been diagnosed with inoperable cancer.

The Day of Prayer will be held at Guildford Cathedral on Monday, and visitors are invited to attend at any time between midday and 22:00 GMT to pray or light a candle.

A cathedral spokesman said: "All are welcome and encouraged to join us at any stage during the day, for as long as you are able to stay."

He said there would be "opportunity for silent prayer, to pray with others, or to light a candle".

In his letter on 10 February, Bishop Andrew said he considered himself blessed.

He said he had been born into a loving family, found Christ as a teenager, spent almost 40 years happily married, raised four children, and was charged with running ministries within the Church of England.
