Rail lines reopen after closure disruption

Rail lines between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street have reopened after passengers faced major delays in Wednesday's rush hour.

National Rail had warned commuters services could be cancelled, delayed by up to 10 minutes, revised or diverted. While lines have reopened, disruption was still expected unil 18:00 BST.

Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, Transport for Wales and West Midlands Railway services were all affected.

British Transport Police confirmed their officers were called to an incident at Dudley Port Railway Station at about 14:00.

The affected routes included:

  • Avanti West Coast between London Euston and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh
  • CrossCountry between Bournemouth / Paignton / Bristol Temple Meads and Manchester Piccadilly
  • London Northwestern Railway between Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street
  • Transport for Wales between Birmingham International and Aberystwyth / Shrewsbury / Holyhead / Llandudno
  • West Midlands Railway between Walsall and Wolverhampton, and also between Birmingham New Street and Shrewsbury
