A fearless footballer who lost teeth in a challenge has thanked people who donated to a fundraising campaign so she could have them replaced.

Caversham United goalkeeper Holly Robinson came to collect the ball during a match in March but woke up remembering little of what had happened during the tackle in which she lost four teeth.

United's chairman Paul Gutteridge launched a crowdfunding campaign, which paid for the £8,500 remedial work.

"I never thought I would be a dental expert or implant expert but now know more than I ever thought I would," Robinson told BBC Radio Berkshire.

"We have club insurance and I had my own insurance and [dental work] was just the one thing that wasn't covered. I now do have insurance that does cover dental so I've made sure [for any future accidents]."

United's number one was left without the teeth for three weeks before being fitted with a temporary denture.

"The way it went was just astonishing, what was raised. I couldn't be more thankful to everyone who donated. It goes to show what football is, that it's just a community. It's just amazing," she added.

She joked the liquid diet she had been put on after the tackle was the "best diet I have been on for a long time" - but she has not had soup since.
