Man jailed for 'frenzied' attack on bystander
Warwickshire PoliceA man who launched a "frenzied" attack on a bystander, who had tried to call an ambulance for him when he fell to the ground, has been jailed for three years.
Michael Hardy, 37, from Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire, was convicted of grievous bodily harm and affray after repeatedly punching the man in the face, leaving him with a fractured eye socket.
Locals had intervened after witnessing Hardy drunkenly shouting at a woman in the street, during which he ended up on the ground, police said, prompting his victim to call the emergency services.
He was found guilty of the charges and sentenced at a Warwick Crown Court hearing, on 22 December.
During the incident the resident called for police help, prompting Hardy to shout, "Nobody calls the police on me", before launching the attack.
Her left his victim with several injuries, for which he needed hospital treatment.
Det Con Olly George, of Warwickshire Police, said: "Hardy's cowardly, unprovoked attack against a resident who had been trying to call an ambulance for him has disgusted the community in Henley-in-Arden.
"Evidently Hardy thought he could attack residents without consequence. He now has plenty of time in a cell to rethink his assumptions."
