Changes to busy junction following complaints
GoogleChanges are to be made to a busy junction after complaints from drivers.
Enforcement of a bus lane on Ferensway in Hull has led to numerous drivers receiving Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs), according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).
The area causing particular issues is the section of road between Lombard Street and Portland Place.
Hull City Council said it would be making some alterations to the layout between the two junctions, "to make it even more understandable for drivers".
One motorist caught out by the bus lane is Mark Fleming, who visited Hull for a wedding in June.
Days later, he received a PCN through the post informing him he had driven in the bus lane.
Mr Fleming claimed he was unaware the left-hand lane was a bus lane, as it was not indicated well enough by signage or road markings.
The council said between 2023 and 2024 there were 11 PCNs issued at this location and considered at appeal.
One is still pending and the other ten were rejected by the Traffic Penalty Tribunal. The PCNs were deemed to have been issued correctly.
LDRSBus lane operating times were recently changed to peak-time only, so motorists can use the bus lanes for longer, the council added.
The LDRS said the planned changes will include reducing its extent by several metres before the junction with Portland Place.
