Police investigation after attempted ATM theft
Leicester Media OnlinePolice have launched an investigation following an attempted theft of a cash machine from a building society in Birstall.
Officers were called to a report of a burglary at a premises in Sibson Road at about 00:15 BST on Wednesday.
Leicestershire Police said the suspects were still at the scene when officers arrived and "began attacking the police car" before leaving in a grey Audi RS6.
The car left along the A6 Loughborough Road and headed towards Syston on the A46, the force added, with several items that were believed to have been thrown from the vehicle later found by the roadside.
Leicester Media OnlineA cordon was put in place on Sibson Road between the junctions with Loughborough Road and Stonehill Avenue.
No arrests have been made, and no injuries have been reported following the attack on the police car, the force said.
Det Insp Nathan Paddison added: "Our investigation into the circumstances of this incident and establishing what, if anything, was taken is continuing today.
"I'd ask anyone who has information or footage that could assist us to come forward as soon as possible.
"This includes anything recorded on a doorbell, CCTV or dashcam or anyone who saw or heard anyone acting in a manner that seemed unusual or suspicious in Sibson Road or the surrounding areas."
