An elderly pedestrian has died after a suspected hit-and-run collision involving three cars.

The man was found shortly before 07:30 GMT lying in Butts Road, Southampton, near the junction with Crest Way, police said.

He was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and video footage in an effort to trace two black cars travelling towards Portsmouth Road and a light blue car which was heading towards Bursledon Road.

Butts Road has been closed between Orpen Road and South East Road while police inquiries continue.
