Four people have been injured after two cars crashed near Newmarket

Four people have been taken to hospital, including several with serious injuries, after two cars crashed.

It happened on the A142 Fordham Road, near Newmarket and Exning, at about 13:30 GMT on Sunday involving a black VW Golf and a blue BMW, Suffolk Police said.

The East of England Ambulance Service said it sent four ambulances, paramedic cars and the Magpas air ambulance to the scene.

"Four patients - one with severe injuries - were transported by road ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital [in Cambridge]," a spokesperson said.

Writing earlier on Facebook, Suffolk Police said it had closed "Fordham Road near the retail park, and Willie Snaith Road... at the junction with Exning Road" and advised motorists to find alternative routes.

On Monday, police said a driver and passenger of the BMW had been left with serious injuries and officers were appealing for dashcam footage.
