The Winter Solstice is fast approaching, bringing with it the shortest day of the year.

Although the meteorological winter started on 1 December, the astrological season begins on 21 December.

As we prepare for this phase, we take a look back at some of our favourite shots from autumn.

Weather Watchers captured the colours perfectly at many spots around the North East.

Surrounded by the bright colours, even the most mundane views gain a touch of magic.
