Snow glistens across Leicestershire and Rutland

The first cold snap of the season saw snow fall across Leicestershire and Rutland.

BBC Weather Watchers in the two counties braved the low temperatures on Tuesday to capture pictures of the snowy scenes.

Some built snowmen, while some dog owners took their pets out to enjoy wintry walks.

East Midlands Airport in Castle Donington remained open and said its runway was clear of snow, but warned there could be delays while planes were de-iced.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued an amber cold weather alert for various regions, including the East Midlands.

And Leicestershire County Council said its gritters were "standing by to make road surfaces safer" before the temperatures were expected to drop again in the evening.
