One-way system on key island route until April
GoogleA one-way system will be put in place along a busy Isle of Wight road for three months, while ageing water mains are upgraded.
Southern Water said it has already replaced more than 4,000m (13,123ft) of pipes and will shortly start work updating another 1,500m (4921ft) on Horsebridge Hill and Elenors Grove, Fishbourne.
The work means the A3020 will become a one-way system with no access towards Cowes from Newport, until 17 April.
A closure will also be in place on the the A3054 through Fishbourne with diversion routes in place, from 2 February until 10 April.
Southern WaterBuses and emergency vehicles will still be able to use the road via traffic lights.
Southern Water said the £5m programme to upgrade the Islands water mains had been planned to avoid peak tourist periods and was being carried out in partnership with Island Roads.
It added that those living along the stretch where the new pipe is being put in could lose their water supply for up to four hours while they are connected to the new pipe.
The water firm said the work was expected to be carried out between 08:00 and 17:00 with residents given at least 48 hours' notice ahead of losing their supply.
More upgrades are planned across the island in 2026.
