Elmbridge Borough Council says the revamp at the Hurst Pool in Molesey is due to begin at the end of March

A £1.3m refurbishment of a Surrey swimming pool is due to start, a local authority has said.

Elmbridge Borough Council (EBC) said the works at Hurst Pool in Molesey, which is managed by Places Leisure, were due to begin at the end of March and scheduled to finish by the end of the summer.

The council added improvements included modernising changing rooms, upgrading the interior decor, and improving the building's energy efficiency and refreshment options.

Simon Waugh, portfolio holder for leisure, culture and commercial strategy, said the revamp would "revitalise a much-loved facility" and offer a "more sustainable and enjoyable experience for visitors".

Waugh added while there had been tentative plans to include a café as part of the upgrade, the council found it was not "financially sustainable for any operator".

Michael Cross, Places Leisure general manager, said: "We are excited to see the refurbishment plans for the Hurst Pool come to life over the next several months."

EBC said while the pool was temporarily closed visitors could access neighbouring facilities managed by Places Leisure.
