A mobility scooter rider who suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash has died.

Derbyshire Police was called to a crash involving a van and a mobility scooter in Chalons Way, Ilkeston, just before 11:00 GMT on Thursday.

A 78-year-old man was taken to hospital but died overnight. His family is aware and is being supported by officers, police said.

The force said a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving but has since been released while he continues to help officers with their inquiries, a force spokesperson added.
