Mobility scooter rider seriously injured in crash

A man has been arrested after a crash left a mobility scooter rider with life-threatening injuries.

Derbyshire Police was called to a crash involving a van and a mobility scooter in Chalons Way, Ilkeston, just before 11:00 GMT on Thursday.

The road was closed and a 78-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The force said a 35-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and the road has since reopened.
