The family of a man who was fatally shot in Nottingham have paid tribute to their "beloved son" who had a "precious soul and contagious laugh".

Nottinghamshire Police said emergency services were called to a property in Ryeland Gardens, in The Meadows, shortly after 05:30 GMT on Saturday.

Coel Tainton, 24, sustained a fatal gunshot wound and died a short time later despite treatment from paramedics, the force added.

On Tuesday, police said Jack Preston, 34, of Ryeland Gardens, had been charged with murder, assault by beating of an emergency worker and a public order offence. He is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

'Loved forever'

The family said, in a statement issued by police, that Coel was "fiercely protective of those he held close" and had a heart "full of kindness".

"He had a precious soul and a contagious laugh that could light up any room and touch everyone around him.

"He brought joy, warmth, and comfort to our lives in countless ways. His humour, strength, and endless love will forever remain in our hearts.

"Though words cannot express the depth of our loss, we know his love surrounds us still. He will be so sadly missed, deeply cherished, and loved forever," the statement added.
