Ajmel Saqikhel was sentenced at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on 29 December

A 30-year-old man has been jailed for a year after he brandished a machete in the street.

Ajmel Saqikhel was seen with the knife in Northfield Road, Peterborough, at about 18:00 GMT on 26 December.

Cambridgeshire Police officers attended and arrested Saqikhel and the machete was found nearby.

Saqikhel, of no known address, was jailed for a year after he admitted possession of a bladed article in a public place at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Mia Wenham, from Cambridgeshire Police, said: "This sentence demonstrates how seriously the courts take knife crime.

"We're working hard to combat the issue and I'd like to thank the member of the public who reported Saqikhel's actions."
