Emergency services were called to the Straight Mile, outside HMP Ranby, on Monday morning

A "much-loved" father and husband who died after being hit by a car in Nottinghamshire has been named by police.

Phillip Tetley, 42, was fatally injured when he was struck on the Straight Mile, outside HMP Ranby near Retford, on Monday morning.

Emergency services said they were called at 07:56 GMT and despite the best efforts of members of the public and first responders, Mr Tetley was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nottinghamshire Police released a tribute from Mr Tetley's loved ones, who described him as "the kindest and most thoughtful man and friend to many".

The driver of the car stopped and gave an account to officers, the force said.

The tribute from Mr Tetley's family added: "Phil was a much-loved husband, son and father to four and stepfather to three."

Det Sgt Jo Eaton said: "Our thoughts are with Mr Tetley's family, friends and loved ones following this tragic incident.

"His family have now asked for privacy at this extremely difficult time and specially trained officers will continue to support them.

"I'm grateful to those members of the public who assisted at the scene and have provided information to support our investigation."
