Entry charge scrapped at woodland play area

Families will soon be able to explore an adventure playground at a historic site for free, although the waived charge comes with the loss of some facilities.

Hermit's Hollow at Coombe Abbey Park, Coventry, includes bridges, walkways and tunnels in the woodland.

The £3.95 entry charge for users would be scrapped from Monday, confirmed Coventry City Council, which runs the park.

But the cafe and toilets at the site will close. Visitors have been advised they can use facilities at nearby Top Pool.

Hermit's Hollow includes upper walkways, tree towers, a tube slide and an accessible companion slide.

There is also a small area for toddlers to explore.

"I'm delighted that it is now free for visitors," said Abdul Salam Khan, the council's deputy leader.

"Hermit's Hollow is a wonderful facility for visitors to enjoy and it means there is even more choice for people when they visit Coombe Abbey Park."
