Residents return to homes following security alert

Residents of a tower block in Newtownabbey have been able to return to their homes following a security alert.

Beechwood House at Woodland Drive was cordoned off while technical officers worked at the scene.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) thanked people for "their patience, understanding and cooperation".

Earlier Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council opened the Valley Leisure Centre for those who were in need of temporary accommodation, the local Alliance Party councillor Billy Webb told BBC News NI.
