A man will stand trial after a woman was seriously assaulted outside a convenience store.

Northamptonshire Police said the 29-year-old was arrested after a woman in her 20s sustained a "serious facial injury" outside the Co-op in Fieldmill Road, Northampton, at about 14:50 GMT on 24 January.

In a hearing at Northampton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday he was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, criminal damage and assault by beating.

The case was committed to Northampton Crown Court for trial and the man was remanded into custody until his next court appearance on 12 March.
