Woman, 82, murdered in street as hunt for 'dangerous' man continues

Detectives have launched a murder investigation after an 82-year-old woman was found dead on a Glasgow street.

Elizabeth Colligan was critically injured on Cardowan Road, in the Carntyne area of the city, at about 04:00 on Saturday.

Police Scotland later confirmed it was hunting a "dangerous" man last spotted in the area around the time Colligan's body was discovered.

The force also issued a photograph of Grant McKinnon, who is 30.

In an update on Sunday evening officers said they were following a positive line of inquiry and work was ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Det Insp Gordon Walker said: "Our thoughts remain with Elizabeth's family and friends during this very difficult time.

"We are continuing to offer them our support as the investigation progresses."

He added door-to-door inquiries were being carried out in the local area and a detailed review of all available CCTV footage was being carried out.

Chief Insp Jon Watters said: "We understand that this will be concerning for the local community, and we want to reassure the public that extensive inquiries are underway.

"There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days, and anyone with information or concerns is encouraged to speak with officers."
