Huge fire rips through industrial estate
@NeilBebbingtonPeople living near an industrial estate are being warned to keep their windows and doors closed after a major fire broke out overnight.
Firefighters were called to reports of a fire on Raikes Clough Lane industrial estate in Bolton, Greater Manchester, at about 02:30 GMT, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said.
Engines from Bolton, Farnworth, Atherton, and Bolton North community fire stations were sent to the scene, where a large pile of scrap metal was alight.
A spokesperson said no one was injured in the fire, but Raikes Lane remains closed with emergency services still at the scene and people advised to avoid the area.
"Crews remain on scene as they work to make the area safe with assistance from Greater Manchester Police, the Environment Agency and Bolton Council," the spokesperson said.
"Due to the large amount of smoke, residents are advised to keep doors and windows shut and to avoid the area."
