Woman dies in car crash with HGV
GoogleA woman in her 50s has died in a crash between a heavy goods vehicle and a car.
It happened on the westbound carriageway of the A66 in Boldron, County Durham, at about 07:15 GMT, Durham Police said.
The woman, who was driving a BMW, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of a Renault truck, a 29-year-old man, was arrested in connection with the collision.
The A66 remains closed in both directions between the A1(M) at Scotch Corner and the A67 near Bowes.
The man was taken into police custody and was helping officers with their investigation, police said.
Officers also thanked several members of the public who stopped at the scene and tried to help.
A diversion is in place on the A1 and the A67, and motorists were told to expect delays in the area.
