Motorists faced congestion and delays after a swing bridge on a busy route could not be fully closed.

The A3029 Brunel Way in Bristol was shut in both directions due to technical problems at the Plimsoll Swing Bridge, meaning it was unable to be fully closed.

It is believed the technical fault occurred earlier while basic maintenance was being carried out, and staff had to wind it shut by hand.

It comes just days before the bridge is set to close overnight on Tuesday for essential repairs and maintenance.
