A man who died after being hit by a car outside a supermarket in Edinburgh has been named by police.

Bill Hepburn died from his injuries a short time after the incident involving a blue Volkswagen Polo in the car park of a Tesco Extra in Meadow Place Road, Corstorphine on Wednesday.

In a statement, his family said they were "heartbroken" and described the 66-year-old as a "loving husband and father".

Police Scotland asked anyone who witnessed the incident and had not yet spoken to officers to come forward.

Sgt Paul Ewing said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Bill and inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances."
