An air ambulance has landed in a supermarket car park after a man was hit by a car in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called to the Tesco Extra car park on Meadow Place Road in Corstorphine at about 09:10.

Pictures from the scene show a large area of the car park cordoned off by tape tied to upside-down trolleys, with a heavy police and ambulance presence.

The condition of the male pedestrian is currently unknown.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said it sent two ambulances, a paramedic response unit, a critical care paramedic and an air ambulance to the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "Emergency services are in attendance and inquiries are ongoing."
