Two men on a moped who were armed with a chainsaw and a machete carried out a daylight robbery at a town centre jewellery store.

Hertfordshire Police said the men had broken a window at Garnier Jewellers on the High Street, Hoddesdon, at about 11:15 GMT on Monday and had taken items that had been on display.

No-one was hurt, but members of the public who tried to intervene were threatened.

Det Insp Neil Watts said: "We are aware that there is footage already circulating on social media of this incident and we would urge people not to share but to send any evidential material directly to us."

He added: "We would also like to hear from anyone who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch as soon as possible."

The men left on the moped along back roads off the High Street.

The vehicle and a helmet were recovered in Dobbs Weir Road, near the Fish and Eels pub, police said.
