Driver of damaged car was 'surprisingly' not drunk

Police said they were surprised to find a person driving a badly damaged car was not drunk - or high on drugs.

The blue Mercedes was spotted by roads policing officers in Elstree, Hertfordshire, and a picture of it posted online on Sunday.

Its driver was reported for failing to stop, having no driving licence and for operating a vehicle in a dangerous condition.

Branding the car unacceptable, police said on X: "Surprisingly the driver was negative for drugs and alcohol."
