A council tax rise of just over 8% is being recommended in Aberdeen.

The increase of 8.13% has been put forward by local authority officials which would mean a typical Band D household in the Granite City paying an extra £65.

Proposed council tax increases across Scotland range from 5% to 10%, all above the rate of inflation which currently stands at 3%.

Councillors in Aberdeen will consider their budget at a meeting next week.

More than £15.5m of potential savings have been drawn up.

These include cuts in music tuition, and dimming street lights.

The meeting will be held next Wednesday.

Two neighbouring councils in north east Scotland - Aberdeenshire and Moray - have tabled proposals for rises of 10%.

A council tax increase of 7.3% has been recommended for Shetland.

Scotland's three largest councils by population - Glasgow, Edinburgh and Fife - have all proposed a 5% increase.

These are expected to be among the lowest in Scotland.
