The A18 will be closed from 7 to 17 April

The Isle Man's Mountain Road is set to be closed for 11 days next month for maintenance works and TT preparations.

The Department of Infrastructure (DOI) said the closure of the A18, from the Creg Ny Baa to the Bungalow, would come into force from 7 April.

Road race preparation work, gully maintenance and verge cutting, carriageway patching and resurfacing, and line painting will all take place.

Contractors will also cut down more than 20 trees at the northern end of the road, the DOI said. Those earmarked for felling are said to be "dead or dying ash and elm trees" at the roadside between Stella Maris in Ramsey and Ballure Waterworks.

The DOI said the closure would also see roadside walls at the Gooseneck Waterworks and Hairpin reconstructed and signs replaced after they were damaged by crashes.

TT preparations include the installation of poles and signs for the one-way system put in place for the two-week motorsport festival, as well as race safety equipment and marshalling posts, and the painting of bridges and kerbs.

The department said a short section of the road at Bunglow Bridge would remain open to allow access to the Snaefell Mountain Railway, Snaefell Summit Café and Victory Café via the Tholt-y-Will Road.

The road will be closed from 09:30 BST on 7 April until 15:.30 on 17 April.
