Event aims to spark new interest in Guernesiais
BBCA community event celebrating Guernesiais, Guernsey's officially recognised language, will take place next week with organisers hoping it will draw in a new wave of learners.
The third event of its kind will be held on Saturday 7 February at St Martin's Community Centre from 14:00 to 16:00 GMT, with promises of a relaxed afternoon, light refreshments and slices of Guernsey Gâche - a fruit bread.
Anyone with even the slightest curiosity about Guernesiais was welcome, whether they already speak it or have never tried a single word, said organisers.
The event aims to help people who want to learn the language, boost their confidence or simply spend time in a space where Guernesiais is spoken.
Prof Julia Sallabank, from the Guernsey Language Commission, will outline a new course for adults.
"It is always exciting to share new content with people who are keen to learn," she said.
Local makers and businesses that use Guernesiais in their products will also be there, showing how the language still fits into everyday island life.
