Plans for major redevelopment of school announced
BAM architectsA group of "outdated" school buildings in Kirkby-in-Ashfield could be torn down and replaced if plans are approved.
The Two Counties Trust has submitted plans to demolish nine buildings at the 2,750-place Ashfield School campus to make way for three new school blocks, which will be linked by bridges.
Proposals for the secondary and post-16 school also include community spaces and new sports pitches, according to planning documents.
Planning authority Ashfield District Council is set to rule on the scheme by mid-February 2026.
The project is funded by the Department for Education and will lead to the demolition of seven existing teaching buildings and two caretaker's cottages if approved.
BAM architectsIn its application, the trust said it would replace "outdated, end-of-life school buildings in the lower school" with "a comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable environment that supports educational goals, enhances visitor experience, and achieves net-zero carbon targets".
Planning documents also state music and drama teaching areas would be moved away from exam spaces and closer to sports facilities.
Ground source heat pumps and solar-panelled roofs alongside "energy-efficient enhancements" to the school pool will help the school meet green requirements, the documents added.
