Plans to demolish and rebuild school approved

Plans to demolish and rebuild a secondary school in Kirkby-in-Ashfield have been approved by the district council.

The Outwood Academy was identified for a comprehensive redevelopment as part of the Department for Education's School Rebuilding Programme, under the previous government.

Plans outline a new three-storey teaching block and enhanced sports areas.

The new facility is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2028-29 academic year.

Teaching at the 900-pupil school will continue during construction with a temporary teaching block due to be installed at the site

Lead principle Andy Scruby said securing planning permission was a "key milestone in our work".

A Department for Education spokesperson said: "Every child deserves a safe, high-quality classroom where they can focus on learning, which is why we are thrilled that planning permission has been granted for Outwood Academy Kirkby.

"Work will soon begin on building new classrooms and a sports pitch that students can not only feel proud of, but that meets the needs of all students now and in the future.
