University plans to build 250 new homes

Plans to build 250 new homes on grassland have been revealed by the University of Worcester.

Proposals for the new housing development on land off Oldbury Road in Dines Green, Worcester, have been submitted to both Worcester City Council and Malvern Hills District Council.

Previous plans for student accommodation and a lecture theatre were approved in 2021 but planning permission expired in March this year.

The university said it was working with professional advisors to bring forward a proposal "for a residential development on this site".

It is unclear at this stage if the new proposals include student homes or not.

A report submitted with the application said, alongside construction, access and engineering works, the proposed "Temple Laugerne" development would also include the demolition of Ambrose Farm.

If plans were approved, the development would border the planned urban extension of Worcester, which will see more than 2,000 homes built between the city and Lower Broadheath.

"The land at Temple Laugherne has previously been identified as being suitable for housing in the South Worcestershire Development Plan and has been subject to previous planning applications for residential development," a university spokesperson added.

An Environmental Impact Assessment screening report was submitted to the councils with an application for outline planning permission to follow.
