Van dwellers given 24 hours to leave city street
BBCPeople living in vans and caravans have been given 24 hours to leave a Bristol street or risk being forcibly removed.
Bristol City Council had previously given every vehicle on Goodneston Road in Fishponds two weeks to move. However, about 30 vehicles remain parked on the street.
A court order was made at Bristol Magistrates' Court earlier which means vehicle dwellers now have 24 hours to leave the area.
The court heard there had been regular complaints of fires, fly-tipping, anti-social behaviour, drug dealing and criminal damage at the site as well as human waste left in the road.
Faria Jadoon, representing the council, told the court there was a risk to the general public after "ongoing complaints" of anti-social behaviour and highway obstructions since 2025 and, more recently, arson attacks.
If the site is not cleared, the council will have to give a further 24 hours notice to take action to remove any vehicles which do not have exemptions.
Exemptions may be given for medical reasons, mechanical failures or other emergencies.
The court heard the council had already carried out welfare checks at the site.
