Arrest after airport break-in caused 'minor delays'

A man has been arrested after a break-in at Guernsey Airport earlier.

The man allegedly accessed the aerodrome from the north side of the boundary before the site opened to the public, according to a spokesperson for the airport.

They said airport staff intercepted the man and detained him until he was arrested by Guernsey Police.

Richard Thomasson, airport director, apologised for "minor delays" caused by the incident, and said: "The safety of all users of Guernsey Airport will always be our number one priority."

"The incident took place prior to the aerodrome opening and was dealt with swiftly by our operational teams working closely and collaboratively with our airline partners," Mr Thomasson added.

"Operational disruption was kept to a minimum through the activation of established and tested procedures."

All airside areas and aircraft were thoroughly checked before the aerodrome was reopened, a spokesperson for the airport added.
