Northumbria Police says it has arrested a man on suspicion of murder

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of another man in his 50s.

Northumbria Police said it received a report about a serious assault at an address on Hastings Street in the Hendon area of Sunderland at about 7:15 GMT on Tuesday.

He was treated by emergency services but died at the scene a short time later.

The force said a 32-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder and the two men were believed to be known to each other, with no wider risk to the public.
