Schools awarded grants to expand breakfast clubs
Getty ImagesThree primary schools in York are set to get extra breakfast and after school club places after being awarded a £51,000 grant.
According to City of York Council, schools in Clifton, Dringhouses and Wheldrake will benefit from the funding.
The grant from the government was given following an application process which ran from October to December.
It includes £30,000 for 35 breakfast and after school club places at Clifton Green Primary School, £15,000 for 25 places at Dringhouses Primary School and eight places funded by £6,000 at Thorganby Primary School.
A council document stated the funding would help to deliver on an ambitious programme of increasing places as part of national childcare reforms.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service said it comes after most working families with children aged between nine months and five years old became eligible for 30 hours of early education and care a week in September.
The government gave the council £333,600 from its 2023-24 Childcare Capital Expansion grant fund to help increase physical capacity in schools where demand was expected to outstrip supply.
Department for Education funding worth £579,200 has also been awarded to make sure families who need it can get childcare between 08:00 and 18:00.
