People were consulted over the expansion plans last summer

Plans have been submitted for the expansion of a special school for children with complex and profound learning difficulties.

Green Park School in Bilston, Wolverhampton, wants to add three classrooms, a staff room building and reconfigure parking and drop-off areas, according to plans.

The expansion of school places rising by almost 30 from 2027, is part of wider City of Wolverhampton Council's plans to increase Send places in both state and specialist settings.

The number of pupils with an education, health and care plan (EHCP) in Wolverhampton increased by nearly two-thirds between 2019 and 2024, according to the local authority – rising from 1,382 to 2,258, the council said last year.

The plans include an extension to the existing school to provide additional Send teaching accommodation, as well provision of EV charging and external landscaping.

After a public consultation last summer, the council said it received 88 responses – with 76 (86%) favouring the plans.
