Ashton Tomes died following the crash in Holmfirth

A 19-year-old car passenger who was fatally injured in a crash in West Yorkshire has been named by police.

Ashton Tomes suffered serious head injuries when a silver Skoda Fabia hit a wall in Holmfirth on the evening of 11 February. He died two days later.

Three vehicles are believed to have been involved in the crash on Sheffield Road in the Jackson Bridge area just after 22:00 GMT, according to West Yorkshire Police.

Three 19-year-old men arrested at the scene have been bailed pending further inquiries.

The man driving the car Tomes was in was arrested on suspicion of driving while over the prescribed limit of drugs and causing serious injury through dangerous driving, as was a man who was driving a white Skoda Fabia.

A third man, who was driving a blue BMW, was held on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving.

Police said they believed the cars were travelling in convoy from Langsett Reservoir to Holmfirth.

A force spokesperson appealed to witnesses or people with relevant dashcam footage to get in touch.
