After an exceptionally wet start to the year across Devon and Cornwall, BBC Weather Watchers have been capturing some blue skies and sunshine across the region.

Locations across the two counties have had rain every day of 2026 so far, including North Wyke in Devon and Cardinham in Cornwall.

In January, Storms Goretti, Ingrid and Chandra all battered the South West with strong winds and heavy rain, which led to trees being blown over, power cuts and flooding.

Several other weather warnings have been issued in recent weeks as disruption has been caused across the region.

The sun has started to reappear following all the rain - and more has been forecast over the next few days, but with rain still looming at points.

David Braine, BBC South West's senior broadcast meteorologist, said the upcoming forecast was a mixed bag of conditions.

"So far this year we have had slow moving areas of low pressure close to Cornwall which have produced a lot of rain," he said.

"The jet stream which would normally send these areas of low pressure through quickly, and therefore limiting the amount of rain, have been much further south than normal.

"Its a bit drier, and colder, on Friday and Saturday and then next week the jet stream is in a more normal position, still unsettled but everything much more mobile."
