A field earmarked for housing in a village is being "finalised for sale" by its owner, planning inspectors have been told.

The agricultural land, off Church Road in Lilleshall, near Newport, has been placed in the draft Telford and Wrekin local plan as potentially being prepared for 49 new homes.

Planning agent Andy Williams told local plan review hearings the site owners had been "respectful" and were waiting for more confirmation the site would be accepted.

Some background planning work had been completed, Mr Williams told Thursday's hearing. A planning application has not yet been lodged with planners, but he said one may be send it "at the end of the year".

The 3.71 hectare site had been earmarked for 74 homes but that had been reduced, the inspectors were told.

Williams said: "I am 100% confident that this site is coming forward. It is a strong housing market area."

He added the site could be built on within five years, helping the council meet its legal need on its housing supply, to meet government targets.

Telford and Wrekin Council planners have assessed it as one of the sites in the draft local plan.

They said all technical constraints "can be reasonably mitigated".
