Full weekend A52 closure for ongoing major works
National HighwaysThe A52 in Nottingham will close for a full weekend as part of ongoing major roadworks to improve the route.
National Highways said the scene, between the Priory roundabout and the Queen's Medical Centre, had been hit by a number of challenges.
A closure will be in place from 20:00 GMT on Friday 27 March until 06:00 on Monday 30 March, in a bid to get the work "back on track".
The A52 is set to be open in both directions in the daytime by early May, the highways authority said.
'Unforseen challenges'
The weekend closure will avoid the need the for six weeks of overnight closures, according to National Highways.
It said recent storms and "severe weather" had been among the challenges faced and changes had been made in the schedule so Severn Trent could carry out works on the same site alongside roadworks - to avoid further closures.
National Highways project manager, Sue Chambers, said: "We fully appreciate how disruptive any roadworks can be, especially a scheme of this size, and are constantly reviewing our programme to see if we can minimise the impact on motorists and communities.
"With any major infrastructure project like this there will also be unforeseen challenges and we must respond accordingly.
"These have included wildlife and ecological constraints, extreme weather, issues with unidentified utilities and working in a tight construction corridor."
The ongoing work includes a new cycleway and footpath - which is expected to be open in mid-April - and resurfacing of the carriageway.
National Highways said the road was expected to be fully open in early June.
