Great Western Railway is asking for railway-related pitches from Gloucestershire locals

A railway company has put out a final call for people to suggest railway-related projects which could benefit local communities.

Great Western Railway is offering grants to people in Gloucestershire from their customer and community improvement fund, with the focus on community and charity schemes.

James Davis, from GWR, said the funding can be for anything from bike lockers or educational programmes that support a great experience of rail travel.

Previous projects supported by the GWR fund include 'Fishing for Change', giving free family day trips with train travel and a tour of the Bristol Harbourside.

Davis said they are excited to hear ideas that will "help us provide a more secure station environment".

"If it benefits passengers and it connects communities, we want to support it," he added.

Devons Folklore Library and Archive, based in Crediton, was also previously supported with a £25,000 grant.

The money was used for the charity's Devon Railway Heritage project to gather historic details and stories from Devon's railways.

The deadline for applications is midday on Monday 2 February
