Supermarket chain Lidl has launched a public consultation on plans to build a new store to serve Chivenor, Braunton and the surrounding areas.

The discount retailer has been seeking feedback on its proposals for the store in Tinever Road, before submission to North Devon Council.

Lidl said it planned to create up to 40 jobs at the supermarket, which would include an in-store bakery, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Car parking spaces for 117 customers and a revised 35-space car park, owned and managed by the local authority, would be incorporated into the site.

Expansion

Suzannah Clemo, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said the company had been looking to open a store in the area "for some time".

Last year, the company announced it wanted to open new stores in 15 locations around Devon as part of a £500m expansion, with additional stores in Plymouth and Exeter in the pipeline.

The retailer has been seeking feedback on the Braunton store proposals via a leaflet distributed locally.

Residents have also been invited to share their comments via the project website.
