An injured walker was airlifted to safety after falling while hiking in the Peak District.

Mountain rescue volunteers were called to Grindsbrook, near Kinder Scout, at 13:38 BST on Tuesday after a report the casualty had suffered a "painful" ankle injury and was unable to walk.

Edale Mountain Rescue Team said a volunteer team member had been running nearby and was able to reach the scene and help.

A Coastguard helicopter was called as other volunteers made their way there.

The helicopter took the walker to a nearby cement works, where a waiting ambulance took the casualty to hospital in Sheffield.
