Murder arrest over 2023 death of 74-year-old man
HandoutA 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 74-year-old man who died in 2023.
Terrance Sands, known as Terry, from Nuneaton, Warwickshire, was attacked while walking home on 5 May 2023 and died seven months later, on 3 December, in a care home.
A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said they believe Sands' death was linked to injuries he suffered in the attack.
The man was arrested on 12 January and released on bail.
Sands was walking to his home on Greenmoor Road from a branch of Nationwide in the town centre when officers said he was attacked.
The exact location of the assault was not known, they added.
He went to hospital but was then released to a care home.
Sands was "quiet and shy", would not hurt anyone and preferred to keep to himself, his family said.
"He had the most innocent eyes and smile. To think someone has used his vulnerability against him and hurt him, is inconceivable to imagine," they added.
Det Insp Gareth Unett said: "As you can imagine we've already spoken to a number of people but we're also appealing to anyone else that spoke to Terry in 2023 where he may have talked to them about what had happened as part of the attack.
