Pilot dies after light aircraft crash
BBC/Stuart WhincupThe pilot of a light aircraft which crashed in North Yorkshire has died of his injuries, police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park in Grewelthorpe, near Masham, at about 12:20 GMT on Wednesday.
They located a single occupant in the aircraft, a 22-year-old man, who despite treatment died in hospital on Thursday evening.
North Yorkshire Police confirmed the plane had departed from Sherburn in Elmet, near Selby.
The force has called for anyone who witnessed the incident and anyone with any footage to contact them.
Det Ch Insp Matt Wilkinson said: "Despite the best efforts of emergency service responders at the scene, and hospital staff, the pilot has tragically passed away.
"We are now conducting a parallel investigation with the Air Accident Investigation Branch, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
He added the pilot's family had been notified and were being supported by specially trained officers.
